This mixed ability class is designed to develop literacy skills for students who cannot yet read and write proficiently. Cedars familiarises learners with the sounds and appearance of the English language and introduces aspects of Canadian culture. The course helps students learn the English alphabet along with the spelling of basic words. Through songs and pictures, the students will focus on building vocabulary recognition and pronunciation.

This two level course is designed to take a lower elementary student with a solid understanding of the English alphabet to the A1 level equivalent. These classes will help students develop their literacy skills at word and sentence level. There will be a focus on building vocabulary with accurate pronunciation. Through engaging and exciting classes, the students will focus on developing reading and writing skills along with speaking and listening. Through exposure to Canadian culture, students will also achieve a wider sense of global belonging and citizenship.

They will be able to provide oral and written descriptions and convey their message with increasing accuracy and fluency. Students will increase their global competency with exposure to Canadian content and universal topics and issues.
